What is the Driver Knowledge Test?
The Standalone Driver Knowledge Test is a computer-based road rule knowledge test. You have to answer 35 questions in total, consisting of four parts. The test can be sat at a Service Tasmania shop. The alternative to sitting the DKT is to complete the Plates Plus course. You can find more info about this in our blog.

How do you pass the Driver Knowledge Test?
As mentioned, the test is split into four parts. The first section will consist of 7 “compulsory” questions. The term “compulsory” is used because you must get all 7 of these questions correct. Next, you will move on to the “Traffic Rules” section. Here, you must get 4 out of 5 questions correct to progress. The last two parts are “Road Rules” and “Road Safety”. To pass these, you’ll need to answer 15 out of 18 right, and 4 out of 5 right respectively. The more you practice the DKT, the greater your chance of passing on the first go!
